FOUNDING PRINCIPLES
Kodawari was founded by a small group of master furniture makers who wanted to pursue a bold new approach to furniture making. To mix classical design elements with sharp modern twists. To explore entirely new design avenues and production techniques. And to fully embrace colour and the use of modern wood dying techniques.
But above all, we wanted to bring the scrupulous standards of custom furniture making to a wider audience.

Kodawari is a Japanese philosophy which embraces the relentless pursuit of perfection.
Style is nothing without substance, so we use only the finest hardwoods, and we ask just one question of ourselves about everything we make. Is there anything we could change, which would make this better? A piece of Kodawari furniture is not built for the moment, it's built to last for generations.
CUSTOM MADE-TO-ORDER
Every piece of furniture we make, we make by hand, to order, here in our rural Cambridgeshire workshop. Although we have stock designs, clients can ‘customise’ everything to individual preferences (often with little impact on price). Clients can specify woods, colours, finishes, mix design elements and alter sizes. Just call us to discuss, we’re real people who love to talk about what we do.
CELEBRATING COLOUR
You’ve created a colour scheme for your room. Chosen paints, wallpapers, and fabrics. But then you hit a problem. Fine wooden furniture tends to come in just one colour: wood. Not at Kodawari. We celebrate colour in our furniture. Stock colours, custom colours, any colours, your colour.
