Kodawari Furniture was formed in April 2025 by George Moore and Steve French following a chance conversation. George is a master cabinet maker with extensive experience working with reclaimed timbers and epoxy ‘river’ tables. Steve is a designer with Creative Director roles in the men’s fashion industry behind him.

The conversation centred on a shared vision of a new style of furniture. One embracing modern materials like liquid glass epoxy and 20th century wood staining techniques. But a vision that was also deeply rooted in the past and its focus on superb cabinetry and meticulous attention to detail. The two also shared a deeply held conviction that clients should be treated as friends, that they should always come first, and that phones and emails should be answered in minutes, not days.

Kodawari was formed within six months of that initial conversation and grew through 2025, developing a range of furniture to showcase its design vision, and largely selling through word of mouth. Along the way the team added members, master craftsmen in the form of carpenters, and a specialist in dying wood benefitting from lessons learnt in the custom guitar world.

Finally, fully ready to meet the world, Kodawari launched its Facebook page in January 2026. 

Our growth plans are modest. Our overriding concern is to build the finest furniture possible, and to explore new design arenas. We freely admit that most of us are of a certain age, our eldest team member apprenticed as a carpenter at age 15 and is still going strong at 70!  And we are all perfectionists. Hence our name. Drawn from a Japanese philosophy, Kodawari is defined as the remorseless pursuit of perfection.
