Kodawari was founded in mid-2026 by George Moore and Steve French.

George started life as an estate agent but despite considerable success slowly succumbed to the urge to do something more creative. He ultimately lost the battle and re-trained as a carpenter, then turned into a professional furniture maker. He quickly established himself as highly talented and original carpenter, embracing the use of liquid glass epoxy, exotic timbers, whilst maintaining a ruthless attention to detail.

George is a keen cricketer, is highly involved with village affairs, is married to Sam, and is the proud father of three children.

Steve’s background featured a similar battle with creativity. He started life as an investment banker, moved on to build a financial services company, before finally giving in and founding the men’s fashion label Blake Mill. His primary role there was Design Director for over ten years before the desire for new creative outlets led him to furniture.

Steve is keen jazz guitarist, is married to Jane, and is the proud father of two daughters.

The two, who unknowingly lived within a mile of each other, met by chance and found they shared a similar vision. A new type of furniture, one inspired in large part by the work of custom guitar luthiers. Forsaking the near ubiquitous use of beige oils and dyes to finish furniture, they wanted to use bold colours to draw out the natural beauty of wood. And given that style is nothing without substance, it was vitally important to both of them that the furniture should be made meticulously. The sort of furniture that, in a throwaway society, would look superb on delivery, but which would still look superb generations later.
